A very well written book . Infact , I would say this a very well binded collection of events which led to killing of MK Gandhi. The book starts just pre 1947 period and then attempts to join events/scenes/movements which incepted the idea of killing Gandhi and its successful execution thereafter.
The writer ( Manohar Malgonkar ) has tried to use direct statements of the subjects where ever he can.Malgonkar also seemed to have researched well before writing this book as he made sure that all the major letters/documents/photographs/PILs/Court Statements/Newspapers etc. were scanned neatly and printed carefully .Interesting archival records include copies of the Air-India tickets used by Godse and Apte to make the trip from Bombay to Delhi and back for the assassination and even their bills at Hotel Marina in Connaught Place where they stayed while carrying out their mission.
The story gels well between different chapters and as it unfolds , at times, the writer directs you to different clues which could have been used during the final trials at Red Fort. Also, as can be expected from such well prepared writer , he hardly misses any chance to reveal some of the loopholes/shortcomings in the Indian Penal code , Police System and the overall governance.
"If the people sitting in the court had been on the jury, they would have acquitted Nathuram"...Judge Khosla who presided over the trial on the crowd who attended the trial.
The book concludes with 90 page speech of Nathruam Godse on why he killed Gandhi.
Go ahead and read this book as it simply reveals the story as it happened without bias.
